PremierBall.com had the opportunity to evaluate & cover a talented pack Full Court Press Easter Classic tournamnet which took place in four gymnasiums with the bulk of the elite 17′s playing at Bishop Gorman High. We decided to stay at Bishop Gorman to get the reps needed to give a proper evalution. We were also able to sneak over to Centennial YMCA for a few 14 bracket teams play. Other than a few lopsided victories or losses the event was competitive. For our college subscribers the following AAU 17′s teams have multiple impact low-mid-high-major players on their rosters as follows;

Compton Magic, Belmont Shores, Belmont Shores Gold, Team Granger, The Las Vegas Prospects, Stone Ridge Prep and the Dog Catchers.

Other teams not noted were a little skinny but still are worth a strong look in July.

DeAndre Daniels Wing (6-foot-8)

Live athlete with multi dimensional talent. Out of the box rebounder with the ability to guard three different positions on the floor. Finishes well on transition and plays with bounce(Click here for the Highlight Play of the tournament). Daniels has not reached his potential & showed flashes of PRO throughout the tournament. 2012 High Flyer

Gabe York, G (6-foot-2)

2012, Orange Lutheran, Orange County, CA.

Played mostly shooting guard but displayed a solid handle and the ability to run off deep threes in bunches. Didn’t see a mid-range game from York but his attack and soft touch sets him apart at 6’2. Older brother is 6’8! York upside is high with growth potential, freakish athleticism & depth shooting from behind the arch. Gabe York-High Major

High Energy

Greg Sequele, F (6-foot-9)

2011, Ribet Academy, Los Angeles Valley, CA.

Mix high energy, great athlete, with a cup of rawness and you get Sequele. Very explosive leaper, shot blocker and rebounder with a good body. Take this kids motor and energy and you will not need to fuel up for years-High Major

Davion Pierson, PG (5-foot-10)

2010, Palo Verde, Las Vegas, NV.

Point guard that can deliver. Sometimes will fade but when engaged is allot to handle. Good body with an explosive bounce. Shoots well and plays both sides of the ball with intensity.

High Major Floor Leader

Jahii Carson, PG (6-foot-0)

2011, Mesa High, AZ.

High flying point guard that excels in transition. Good shot , excellent penetrator with good court awareness. Great on ball defender and plays the game with a certain battlefield confidence. There is nothing not too like bout Jahii. Solid High Major

Sleeper Talent

Aaseem Dixon, PG (5-foot-11)

2011, Centennial, Las Vegas NV.

Combo guard who can go on a scoring tear. More of a combo at this point but has shown the ability to run a half court set and create. Very crafty, deceptive and has good scoring instincts. Good touch from three and will defend. Solid summer watcher for all Low-Mid Majors

Longest Talent

Henry Buckley, C (six-foot-10)

2010-2011?, Impact Basketball Academy, Las Vegas, NV.

Good athlete that plays with emotions. Good instincts & blocking skill set which you can’t teach. Runs the floor well, his best basketball will be in three+ years. UNLV commit

Versatile Perimeter Defender

Michael Thompson, G (6-foot-2)

2011, Canyon Spring, Las Vegas, NV.

Slasher and defensive specialist is Thompson calling. Full time play making abilities is the only question mark with a consistent spot up. Keep him at a combo he might be better suited at a mid level. Great off the dribble going left! Shoots well from the bounce and is a true athletic perimeter player with superb quickness. -Mid-High

Athletic Shooters

Askia Booker, G (6-foot-2)

2011, Price High, CA.

One of the better athletes in the tournament. Can play all three position because of his athleticism and bounce. Played mostly off the ball because of his scoring punch. Finished above the rim through out the whole weekend and even tip jammed with his left hand in traffic. Great athlete who we will follow throughout the summer.

Bruce English, G (6-foot-1)

2011, La Vern Lutheran, La Verne, CA.

A strong combo with super bounce. Plays hard on defense and is a competitor. Shoots and handles well. English is on our watch list. Only caught one game but I liked what I saw.

2011 Points Guards

Cezar Guerrero, PG (6-foot-0)

2011, Cerritos, St. John Bosco, CA.

Plays the game with a pinch of flare. Shooting mechanics are excellent and shoots from the dribble creation. Posses soccer feet and can get anywhere he wants to on the court. Ceazar was the best play-maker in the tournament and has a knack for getting the right players enough touches. Also displayed some gritty defense throughout the tournament. Led team to FCP tournament championship trophy. Mid-High

CJ. Cooper Jr. PG (six-foot-0)

2011, La Vern Lutheran, La Verne, CA.

Along with Carson and Guerrra, you can place Cooper name in the mix of top Points on the west coast. Good shooter that can run a team and make the big shots in crunch time. Made his teammates better by penetrating at will making the right decisions on the break. Also displayed this ability to feed the post and early offense hit aheads. Good competitor that buys into defending his man. Mid-High Major

Evan Roquemore, PG (6-foot-3)

2010, Foothill, Henderson, NV.

As of right now Roquemore will prep. Had a good weekend of hoops filling in for Eric Cooper Jr. at point for Belmont Shores Gold. Played the game with a pass first mentality and looks to be a player that will have the athleticism and skill set to be an impact point guard recruit. Solid Mid Major who could play his way into High Major with a great summer circuit.

Christian Gore, PG (6-foot-3)

2011, Franklin High, El Paso, Texas

Posses the skill set to be a solid division-1 player. Very good shooter from El Paso with live legs on transition. Good IQ and runs the point effectively with excellent size at the point. As far as results, Gore sometimes will leave you hanging and wanting to see more. Look for Gore to improve his intensity and confidence as strength will help. Mid-Low Major

Khristian Kirkwood, PG (6-foot-0)

2011, Valley High, Las Vegas, NV.

Pure Point that has excellent IQ and court awareness. Not super quick but very deceptive. Pass first point that makes his teammates around him better. Can run a half court set and is a vocal leader. Played the first two days of tournament only. The heart & soul of the Dog Catchers. Low-Major that could play his way up to a mid with a refined jump shot.

2012 Radar Watcher

Demitrius Balark, G, (6-foot-2)

2012, Phoenix, Arizona

Plays to the rim and posses a good shot from three. Good young talent who we will continue to watch and keep an eye on. Mid Major

Korey Alford, G (six-foot-4)

2011, La Cueva, Albuqueque, NM

“The red hair three point bomber.” Good size for a two guard that shoots with range. Settles for the three allot more than often but his mechanics allow him too. Pure Flicker shooter that has to be a gym rat and shoots with confidence. Decent handle and competes on both ends. Mid-High Major

Rashad Muhammad, G (6-foot-4)

2013, Bishop Gorman, Las Vegas, NV.

Good shooter with a long frame. Handles the ball well for his height. Played in the 17′s bracket and showed his ability to defend and rebound. Looking at his frame & skill set Muhammad will be a big guard that shoots, handles and passes. Has been offered by a few schools. High Major-

Versatile Forward

Grant Jarrett, F (six-foot-8)

2012, La Verne Lutheran, La Verne, CA.

Finesse hybrid 4 man that looks great from 21 feet in. Can nail the open three and has a wing span that looks bigger than his 6’8 frame. Pray from 6’10 and he will be a pro. Displayed a soft touch, snatched extended rebounds and posses the IQ to play solid weak side defense. Good feet work on the block and goes to work when he gets his touches. With more engagement and passion he will be an elite. High-Mid

The 2^nd annual Pangos Sweet 16 was held on April 24-25, 2010 @ Cabrillo High School (Long Beach CA) and Lynwood High School (CA). The 64 team field attracted asizeable contingent of media and scouts including Adam Gorney (Rivals.com), Frank Burlison (Long Beach Press-Telegram), Joel Francisco (ESPN.com), Dinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press, Hoop Scoop andNothing But Net Magazine), Etop Udo-Ema (Fullcourt Press & Hoopmasters), Greg Hicks (Scout.com),Dave Nahabedian (Networx), Thom Jones (TJ Sports), Matt Rodriguez (BallisLife.com), Dave Keefer & Dave Rogahn (CaliforniaPreps.com), Neal Nieves (Coast to Coast Recruiting) and Victoria Sun & Roy White (West Coast Hoops Report).

Compton Magic won 4 straight games including an 85-53 blow-out win over Sacramento-based Play Hard-Play Smart in the title game to win the Gold Division crown. Tourney MVP 5’10” senior Jahii Carson (Mesa/Mesa AZ had 21 points for CM. Compton Magic now joins Belmont Shore (Fullcourt Press Easter Classic champions) and California Supreme (Double Pump Spring Classic champs) as one of only 3 Southern California-based squads to claim major tourney titles so far this spring. In the Silver Bracket Final, it was Pasadena Success edging 1 Tough School 52-50 while in the Bronze Bracket Final it was San Diego Warriors over Hooptown 17. HAX 17 outlasted TNL Admirals in the Showcase Division Final.

Tourney MVP had his way all week-end long by land (slithering through defenses at will) or by air (elevating for Spud Webb-like slams)! Carson has all the tools high-major programs desire in a PG prospect.

DeAndre Daniels 6’8” 2011 Taft (Woodland Hills CA)
Texas-bound swingman is very capable of being an offensive machine as his 35 points (on 13/24 shooting that included 5 “threes”) versus Organized Chaos clearly shows.

Darius Nelson 6’5” 2011 Sheldon (Sacramento CA)

Is there a shooter in the West (or in the nation) with more confidence than the younger brother of former Duke star and NBA player DeMarcus Nelson? Darius was on fire from long-range (22 points including 4 “threes”) against Compton Magic in a Gold bracket semi-final.

Norvel Pelle 6’9” 2011 Price (Los Angeles CA)
Pelle was nearly sensational by almost pulling off a triple-double (8 points/15 rebounds/9 blocks) in a hard-fought semi-final effort against Compton Magic.

Cezar Guerrero 6’0” 2011 St. John Bosco (Bellflower CA)During his Sunday morning game versus 805 Elite, Cezar displayed his improving playmaking game by dishing out 11 assists (including several pin-point passes in transition)

as well as his usual outside accuracy (21 points). Followed up that performance with a solid 10 points/6 boards/5 assists against Organized Chaos.

Tough and gritty wing willed PHPS to the Gold final.

Damien Cain 6’6” 2011 Harvard-Westlake (North Hollywood CA)Chuck Hayes-type blue collar PF is a producer both on the glass and in the post. Love his poise and business-like attitude on the floor!

Wesley Saunders 6’5” 2011 Windward (Los Angeles CA)Athletic swingman makes plays on both ends.

Grant Jerrett 6’8” 2012 La Verne Lutheran (La Verne CA)
Once this super-skilled post adds additional weight and strength, he will be a dominating force for years to come.

Alex Fertig 6’3” 2012 Buchanan (Fresno CA)
Smart and tough combo-guard has excellent 3-point range. Father Jack Fertig was a former assistant at Fresno State and USC.

Brian Bock 6’3” 2010 Eisenhower (Rialto CA)
Bock’s incredible “turn and catch” 3-point heave while falling out of bounds against Team Odom was perhaps the top shot highlight of the weekend.

Savvy point with a feathery touch should be the object of much D-I interest this July.

Ronnie Stevens 6’9” 2011 Serra (Gardena CA)
Defensive stopper put his finishing touches on a very impressive weekend with a 13 point/8 board effort versus Organized Chaos.

The 2^nd annual Fullcourt Press Easter Classic held on April 9-11, 2010 @ Bishop Gorman High School (Las Vegas NV) attracted 88 teams in its four playing divisions. Asizeable contingent of national/regional media and scouts attended including Van Coleman(Hoopmasters.com), Adam Gorney (Rivalshoops.com), Dinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press, Hoop Scoop andNothing But Net), Paul Dean (Westcoasthoopsreport.com), Victoria Sun (Westcoasthoopsreport.com), Etop Udo-Ema (Fullcourt Press & Hoopmasters), Matt Rodriguez (BallisLife.com), Christian Popoola & Lew Roberts

(PremierBall.com) and Chad Groth (AreaCodesBasketball.com) as well as Duke Pryor from IHoops.com – the NBA & NCAA’s basketball initiative.

Belmont Shore ran the table in Sin City by winning six straight games en route to the Elite Division Gold title. Tourney MVP 6’8” junior DeAndre Daniels (Taft/Woodland Hills CA) poured in 26 points while 6’0” junior point guard Cezar Guerrero added 20 points and 7 assists to help Belmont Shore knock off Stoneridge 72-62 in the championship game. Daniels played extremely well all tourney long but was especially heroic in the play-offs where he knocked in a 3-pointer against Belmont Shore Gold at the buzzer to force OT (giving his team another chance to squeeze out a narrow 1 point quarter-final win); got fouled on a drive to the basket with 1.5 seconds left and hit one of two free-throws to help Belmont Shore advance past Branch West Elite in the semi-finals and scored Belmont Shore’s first 10 points in the championship game.

Las Vegas Prospects(led by 6’2” junior Michael Thompson) beat Danny Granger Hurricanes II (sparked by 6’4” junior Kory Alford) in the Elite Division Division championship, Polynation (Las Vegas NV) beat Team Ariza in the 16 & under championship, San Francisco Rebels defeated Danny Granger Hurricanes (Albuquerque NM) squad 66-60 in the 15 & under final and Polynation (Las Vegas NV) topped their hometown rival Las Vegas Prospects 65-61 in the 14 & under title game.

In this report (Part I) we will highlight the players that were selected to the Elite Division all-tourney team

DeAndre Daniels 6’8” 2011 Taft (Woodland Hills CA) MVP
Daniels had a “statement” tournament – laying serious claim as California’s top 2011 prospect. DeAndre combines excellent length, NBA 3-point shooting range and terrific athleticism to form a dangerous offensive package. The Texas-bound Daniels has really improved his ballhandling and passing skills as well.

Strong power-forward has made great strides since being sidelined over a year ago with a severe eye-injury.

Kelly Assinesi 6’0” 2011 St. Joseph (Greenville SC)
“Tough-as-nails” lead guard and Pasadena native has legitimate 3-point shooting range.

Kory Alford 6’4” 2011 La Cueva (Albuquerque NM)
Son of Lobo head coach Steve Alford has an accurate perimeter stroke of his own.

Josh Amaya 6’10” 2010 Mesquite (Gilbert AZ)
Big post with size is a prospect with value still on the 2010 board.

David Andoh 6’7” 2012 St. Teresa (San Jose CA)
Promising combo-forward has excellent inside-outside offensive skills.

Young but talented point is a lefty floor general worth monitoring.

One of the West’s and nation’s top PGs is an athletic playmaker that is difficult to contain in both the half-court set and in transition. National stock and profile is definitely on the rise.

Strong forward is a dangerous slashing scorer.

CJ Cooper 6’0” 2011 La Verne Lutheran (La Verne CA)
Scoring point has excellent ability to make clutch perimeter shots.

Tyrel Corbin 6’0” 2011 West (Salt Lake City UT)
Son of former Utah Jazz star Tyrone Corbin is an efficient scorer that has the requisite basketball IQ to run a squad.

Gatete Djuma 6’8” 2011 West (Salt Lake City UT)
African import runs like a gazelle and can finish high above the rim. Very intriguing upside.

Cameron Forte 6’5” 2011 McClintock (Phoenix AZ)
High-octane scorer is one of the West Coast’s top underrated 2011 talents.

Christian Gore 6’2” 2011 Franklin (El Paso TX)
Smooth pull-up jump shooter is deceptively agile and athletic.

Cezar Guerrero 6’0” 2011 St. John Bosco (Bellflower CA)
Guerrero has detractors but they could not quarrel with the outstanding effort he displayed here – leading his Belmont Shore squad to six straight wins and the 2010 FCP Easter Classic crown. Guerrero will challenge Josiah Turner for top billing as California’s top 2011 PG by the time July ends this year. Unofficially visited Lon Kruger and UNLV after the event ended on Sunday night.

Solid point is an excellent distributor.

Mark Jackson 6’3” 2010 Taft (Woodland Hills CA)
Playmaker with size was impressive here and his tremendous basketball instincts were very apparent to those who witnessed him leading his Stoneridge squad to the tourney finals.

Arguably the West Coast’s top 2012 post prospect, Grant has the skill package and the emerging athleticism to be a coveted coast-to-coast recruit.
