NIKE E.Y.B.L SESSION #3 DAY 2

The rapid momentum of Day 1 propelled itself into Day 2 right from the getgo. The morning kicked off with Team Final and Baltimore Elite 8am match up and did not seem to notice that they were still on East Coast time.

2011, 6-foot-7, wing Michael Gilchrist (Team Final) proved why he has held the #1  rated player in his class from several publications. Gilchrist literally put on a show, finishing above the rim from half court dribble drives, making the extra pass, hitting dribble pull ups, attacking the offensive glass, and blocking shots. 2012, 6-foot-8, PG. Kyle Anderson (New Jersey Playaz) has the ability to make tough plays look easy; his effortless playing style can be attributed to his high basketball IQ, which allows him to play at a very controlled slow pace and yet still gets great angels at the basket. ‘Slo-Mo’ Anderson is the right-handed version of Lamar Odom but with a better jumpshot and more athleticism than Odom did at his age. He managed to get to the basket at will but left a few missed rim rolling layups. That aside, Anderson was one of the most entraining players of the tournament this day due to his court vision, effortless skill set and slow motion style of play in a 6-foot-8 frame. 6-foot-4, G Jabari Brown (Oakland Soliers) had a descent shooting performance but he capped it off with a full court coast to coast split dribble finish and dunk. The dynamic play of 6-foot-1, PG Marquis Teague (Spiece Indy Heat) improved today over yesterday’s performance. Teague, one of the most explosive players in the 2011 class had a much better Day 2, he still needs to tighten up the jump shot but he does everything else so well. His ability to stutter, freeze, hesitate and change direction leaves his defenders frustrated with their inability to guard him and keep him infront. His quick hands, feet and the ability to get into his defenders shoulders and place them on his hips from the dribble drives separate him from the other high major guards in the 2011 class. 6-foot-9, F Kyle Wiltjer (Oakland Soliers) was a consistent big men threat all tournament and performed well in his games today. Wiltjer is a high major plus player who was crashing the glass and finishing with either hand with athletic defenders trying to swipe away. He can block shots, consistently made his 21 footers and caught from the blocks and went to work; he has tremendous footwork and handles the ball well for his size. Still needs to develop his strength and confidence in order to have a top 10 presence in the 2011 class which he has the potential to do, if he can put it all together now and not later. 2011, 6-foot-9, C/F Rakim Christman (Team Final) was not aggressive on the boards like he was in Las Vegas the weekend before. Although showed flashes of freakish athleticism he was unable to consistenly finish through traffic. 2011, 6-foot-3, G Trevor Cooney (Team Final) shows incredible elevation and range on his jumpshot, with a great stroke and a quick release. Cooney’s talent as a combo or as a single, allows him to create opportunities for others or for himself. 6-foot-3, Combo Guard, Nick Johnson (Oakland Soldiers) came to play today, putting on a dribble cross-over clinic for Boo William’s Team. Johnson really showed his ability to create space from the bounce against the athletic defenders and nail down the mid range shots.2012, 6-foot-9, F Brandon Ashley (Oakland Soldiers) is very long and ran the floor well, hitting the 10 foot jump shot, demonstrating finesse and his athletic ability to finish over the rim on transition. 2011, 6-foot-9, James McAdoo (Boo Williams) looked good when he stayed within 17 feet and worked the high-low blocks on the offensive end. Currently, McAdoo’s defense is far more developed than his offense, but has potential to develop into a 3 man if he improved his perimeter stance. McAdoo is a freakish hybrid face up 4 man that instinctually is always in the right position on defense to rebound, help or block shots. 5-foot-9, PG. Kiwi Gardner (Oakland Soldier) is the heart and soul of the team. Gardner is skilled and has a touch of flare, provides instant energy on and off the court and is a great defender who you have to watch play several times to feel the consistent energy and boost his game gives out. 6-foot-9, Desmond Hubert (New Jersey Playaz) had a strong presence on both offence and defense with his activity around the paint. Additionally he finishes well in transition and his height and soft hands allows him to catch and deliver over the rim. High major 5-foot-9, PG Myles Mack of (New Jersey Playaz) is quick, heady, possessing a natural feel at point, and has the ability to create plays on the defensive end. He is a remarkable leader, which elevates his entire team, and is a key reason why his team is currently 10-0. 6-foot-9, Quincy Miller (D-One Sports) can play, period. He shoots, handles and creates from the wing while creating mid range shots for himself off the dribble. High ceiling of upside for Miller. At 6’11, Aarron Hammons (Spiece Indy Heat) shines defensively, his dominate size makes for exciting rebounds and blocks. Hammons had a solid Day 2 of action.
