NIKE E.Y.B.L SESSION #3 DAY 1

Marquis Teague

NIKE provided 630 basketball players, making up 42 teams for the E.Y.B.L session #3 at the HAX in Los Angeles, CA.

The games were highly competitive, providing athletes a platform to showcase their talent. The Mid Major prospects dominated the E.Y.B.L  while  the bulk of the 2011 elite high major players that were at hand as well. The large talent pool made it impossible to evaluate all the players in a 3 day span.

New Media Blood

PremierBall.com along with many media outlets witnessed two and a half days of elite NIKE basketball, in attendance:

Frank Bulison; Long Beach Telegram, Joel Fransico; ESPN, Mark Mayemura; Court-side, Evan Daniels; Scout.com, Lew Roberts; PremierBall.com,

Ty’mon Norman; Washington Prep, Jack Nelson; California Preps.com, Legendary Coach George Raveling, Chad Groth; areacodesbasketball.com, Duke Pryor; iHOOPS.com, Webb Wellman; ONEentertainment.

Over the years, PremierBall.com has witnessed a shift in media from mainly middle aged scouts and writers, to the new mix of media comprising of mostly eMedia, which has revolutionized the way high school basketball players are now being recruited. The scouts, writers and a handful of mix tape web site owners were there battling for prime position to get the best angle for all the action. Here is my break down notes for E.Y.B.L session #3 day 1.

Boo Williams Vs. Houston Hoops was a game full of athletes. PremierBall will have to come back and get another look at the McAdoo he is an intriguing athlete that will take at least three looks to see his whole package.

Boo Williams:

—2011, 6-foot-8,  F James McAdoo showed off his freakish athletic ability. Long and accurate around the rim and is special on the defensive end

—2012, 6-foot-6, W Justin Anderson is a true wing and posses a great body, long frame, solid handle with the ability to finish above the rim in transition with good touch and the ability to finish Left or Right.. Loads of upside for Anderson.

Houston Hoops:

—2012, 6-foot-3 PG Rasheed Sulaimon handles the ball well, plays on ball defense and can knock down shots. Good looking 2012 prospect

—2011, 6-foot-1 PG Anthony Collins is anther quick Texas athlete that can run a team, handle pressure and can knock down the open jumper.

Supreme Soldier Matchup!

Oakland Soldiers Vs. California Supreme:

Regardless of the score, The Soldiers controlled the game from the beginning to the end. The Soldiers ended up winning by 2 points but showed why they were billed as the #1 aau team on the west coast along with Compton MagicJabari Brown played like a gorilla soldier on the floor, attacking the rim on the break and making jump shots closely guarded from behind the arch. 6′3 Nick Johnson shared the point with 6′3 combo Josiah Turner. Turner’s slashing skills and his ability to finish from the drive was consistent throughout the game. Point guard Kiwi Gardner impressed me with his energy and speed. The score indicated a close game, but that was not the case. Supreme had a difficult time scoring in the half court set with the longer Soldiers front court presence of 6′9 Brandon Ashley and 6′9 Kyle Wiltjer.  Best performance of the day was Jabari Brown who hitting shots from all over the perimeter with Nick Johnson feeding him every chance he had. Supreme played tough and gritty defensively which kept them in the game. Ryan Anderson shot the ball well along with Arizona native guard, Jahii Carson coming off the bench at point. There seemed to be a lack of chemistry  and even a hint of less athleticism from Supreme when trying to finish inside. Kevin Johnson rebounded and defended while 2013 Raschon Prince showcased his defensive abilities and his ability to finish on the break. California Supreme should look more cohesive come July.

Oakland Soldiers:

—2011, 6-foot-4, G, Jabari Brown shot the ball very well from behind the arch with defenders in his face on most of his looks, great finishes on transition and one  of the most creative scorers of the day.

—2011, 6-foot-3, G Nick Johnson did just enough to keep the buzz on his talent. Johnson shot the ball well from dribble penetration, fade always and finishes well on the break. Played mostly point and really made his teammates around him better.

—2011, 6-foot-3, G Josiah Turner was hard to stay in from of. penetrated at will and showed strength inside with finishes. Combo guard that could play full time point on the next level. Athletic and causes havoc on the defensive end.

California Supreme:

—2011, 5-foot-11 PG., Jahii Carson is explosive point guard that needs a few tournaments to mesh with new roommates

—2011, 6-foot-8, F Ryan Anderson shot the ball well, rebounded and showed his ability to compete and play hard.

—2013, 6-foot-6 Racshon Prince made allot of athletic defensive plays that turned into baskets. Athletic and still working on improving.

Seemed like I had to wait eternity to watch Rivers play and it was well worth it……than he went down twice in the early part of the game with a head and ankle sprain. Rivers still showed just enough to impress. Played “D” before he went down too.

Each1 Teach1:

—2011, 6-foot-4, G Austin Rivers shook, changed speeds like a mountain bike going up hill and often left his defenders helpless when he elevated for his jump shot.

Spiece Indy Heat:

—2011, PG Marquis Teague was very explosive in our first look. Great stutter and shake to his game. Quick hands and feet which makes him a great defender. Goes strong left and right with the ability to finish in traffic.

—2012, 6′11 Aaron Hammons is a true big. Georgetown should live at his front door step. Played well on the defensive end by blocking and altering shots. Good mobility for his frame.

Notes:

—The game of the day would have been Austin Rivers; Each1 teach1 Vs. Marquis Teague; Spiece Indy Heat. With both guards battling it out before pre July competition. Rivers went down with a twisted ankle and gash to his head so the buzz died.

—Not verified….Cal Supreme Vs. Compton Magic matchup in the works?
