The Gaels’ started out the game like the 2009 state champions. After rockn’ it at the Orleans Arena like a solo band they decided to rock the gym like the Beatles of yesterday. The word for last night was “together”. They played together and tough. This game was vintage Gaels’ as they ran their half court sets, swung the ball and hit their key players on the run with Loyd exploding down the floor with no answers to stop him.

“PoP” notes:Bishop Gorman

John Loyd:The player of the game without a doubt, scored  10 points and had a dozen assist. Loyd aka “The General”, really got the team rolling with Olympic track running fast breaks and pin point dimes that lead to yammies and open uncontested shots. If Loyd continues to play like last night the Gaels’ will not have a problem taking his team to state. He did a great job warming up his teammates by airing out passes to the the runners and sliding dimes to the trailers. It was a treat to see this dimension of his game. Lloyd Showed true point guard abilities and Anson Winder Added 22points and showed us why BYU inked the versatile Sr. Winder showed us he can pinch at the point, knock down the three, play pressure defensive and score in transition. The Cougars will have a real treat in Anson for 2010.

Shabazz Muhammad: Got into a Lil bit of foul trouble but played through it. He had 18 points and also showed he could not only drain the 15 footer, but the three ball as well. Shabazz rebounds like vintage Barkley on “O” and “D”. Looks like he is sitting in his stance a lot lower and could be a big time wing defender with quick feet. Shabazz strengths are still 17 feet in with a wicked mid-range game that only gym rats can truly appreciate.

Rosco Allen:Looked great on the boards and almost snatched a few from Muhammad. Roscoe is an unselfish player and teammate, he passes first and shoots second. Once Mr Allen realizes he has the sweetest 6′7 1/2 jumper on the west coast there will be no stopping the Gaels. Watching Rosco put the ball on the floor with a smooth 1-bounce dribble game and extend with space and ease over an aggressive defender was special. Look for young Rosco to get more aggressive and have some break out games real soon.

Ben Carter: Surprise note of the night was Ben Carter, a 205 pound sophomore that looks like he likes to bang and score in the interior. Ben moved well in the paint and looked confident on the floor both on offense and defense. The Gorman Sophomores will be a real headache for foes this year.

Durango played fearlessly as they were dominated by the speedy and heady plays of John Loyd. Greg Gentry had some fantastic finishes at the rim and showed he belongs on“TheLIST”. Donovan Williams added 14 points on the night as well. Freshman Tre’Von Wells looks to be a player already with a nice tight compact handle and strong takes to the basket. Look for Tre to be one of the top players in the city with a year or two if he continues to get better.

This game was all Gorman as they really set an athletic controlled pace. Gorman did allow allot of dribble penetration by the Trailblazer guards. There were allot of  easy uncontested buckets. Weak side rotation was slow but hey its only the second game of the year. PremierBall would like to thank Coach Riceand the Gorman coaching staff for access!
