Findlay undefeated at City of Palms/ highlight wins vs. #11 Winter Park, #38 De La Salle. Cory Joseph and Tristan Thompson make all-tournament team.
Findlay completed their 7th game in 11 days over 3 states as they went undefeated at the City of Palms in Fort Myers, FL. Findlay beat Winter Park, Dunbar, De La Salle, and Fort Myers and averaged 85 points per game and allowed 53 per. Findlay made 28 of 62 three point attempts over the 4 games and out-rebounded the opposition 139 to 80. Findlay forced 63 turnovers and committed 40. For the event the Pilots shot 56% from the floor (121/216) and allowed opponents to shoot 40% (80/197)
GAME 1: Findlay 86 Winter Park 75
Findlay Prep defeated prepnation’s #11 ranked Winter Park (FL) in the opening game at City of Palms. Cory Joseph out-dueled Austin Rivers with 27 points including 21 in the first half as well as drawing the assignment on the tournaments leading scorer Rivers. Joseph shot 5 of 7 from the arc and held Rivers to 3 for 10 from the floor in the 2nd half.
Tristan Thompson scored 23 with 11 rebounds. Nick Johnson scored 18 with 8 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. Jabari Brown had 13 points. Winter Park would go on to beat USA Today’s #8 Milton (GA) and Espn’s #4 ranked St. Benedicts (NJ) and last week beat #12 Montverde (FL).
GAME 2: Findlay 87 Dunbar 50
Findlay defeated Dunbar on Monday behind 53% shooting as a team and 16 offensive rebounds. Jabari Brown lead all scorers with 24 points on 9 of 14 shooting including 3 triples. Danish senior guard Thomas Laerke scored 17 on 5 of 8 shooting including 4 of 5 triples. Unsigned senior big Godwin Okonji had 12 and 12 rebounds with 7 of those on the offensive glass. Tristan Thompson scored 8 with 8 rebounds. Nick Johnson scored 6 with 5 assists, 3 steals. Marko Petrovic scored 9 and Winston Shepard had 5 points, 4 rebounds.
GAME 3: Findlay 78 De La Salle 47
On Tuesday, Findlay defeated Chicago’s De La Salle 78-47. The preseson #38 ranked team in the ESPN Rise poll was held to 40% shooting and 4 offensive rebounds. 5 Findlay players scored double figures lead by Tristan Thompson’s 18 on 8 of 10 shooting. Thompson added 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Unsigned senior Marko Petrovic scored 15 on 5 of 6 shooting from three in 14 minutes of action. Cory Joseph scored 13 with 10 rebounds,7 assists, 3 steals. Godwin Okonji scored 11 with 9 rebounds, 2 blocks. Junior Jabari Brown scored 12 and junior Nick Johnson had 8 assists and 7 rebounds.
GAME 4: Findlay 87 Fort Myers 41
In the final game of the event for Findlay, the Pilots defeated Fort Myers behind stingy defense holding the opponent to 28% shooting from the floor (16 of 56) while on offense, shooting 66% for the game (31 of 47). Findlay shot 77% (17/22) in the 2nd half. Seven Pilots scored over 9 points lead by Thomas Laerke who scored 17. Tristan Thompson scored 16 with 13 boards, 3 steals, 3 assists, and 3 blocks and 6 of 8 shooting. Godwin Okonji scored 15 on 6 of 6 shooting and 2 steals. Nick Johnson scored 11 with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Cory Joseph scored 10 points with 6 assists, 5 rebounds in 19 minutes. Marko Petrovic and Winston Shepard each scored 9. Fort Myers defeated ESPN Rise preseason #15 Butler (AL) and Sagemont (FL) in the event.
Findlay is 16-1 on the season.
