Eldorado Upsets Western 81-76.

6′2 Sophmore Guard  Kentrell Washington was a problem for Eldorado up until till the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter belonged to Ariel Bagget and Curtis Stewart both of whom excelled and showed great leadership down the stretch. It was evident that the conditioning had a toll on the game late in the fourth quarter. Coach Uzan’s confidence in his team showed as he went deep into his bench to play some of his freshmen. Uzan’s decision paid dividends in the closing minutes as the sundevils edged Western 81-76. PremierBall choose this game due to the high octane buzz surrounding Kentrell Washington’s stellar play throughout the summer and the beginning of this season.

Arriving to the game an hour early I instantly heard the buzz about sophomore sensation Kentrell Washington. The game started with his cousin Sir Washington, who displayed a smooth stroke and solid ball handling ability. Sir’s upside is through the roof if he can learn to match the same intensity as his  cousin, and keep fine tuning his nice shot that extends to the three point line.

PremierBAll notes on Kentrell Washington:

Swing-6′2-2012-Las Vegas-NV-Western High School-

Kentrell is a problem to deal with because he moves without the ball effectively and  has a nice 1-2 bounce dribble pull up from any spot on the floor. Kentrell finishes extremely well around the basket and is  mentally tough and confident which allows him to rip 7 to 10 points in a row. When Kentrell gets in a groove he scores in bunches and bunches. Washington on defense is just as impressive. He showed his competitiveness by blocking two fast break lay ups on the glass by hustling back on defense. Kentrell finished with 24 points, 8 rebounds, 5asst and 3 blocks. With added height and a strong work ethic Kentrell will play at a high major in 2012.

Eldorado did an excellent job wearing down the athleticism of Western by trapping and maintaing their uptempo scrappy style for the whole game. Eldorado was lead by top Jr. Curtis Stewart’s 24 points and scoring guard Ariel Bagget’s 22pts. Da’Quon Thrower added 12 , followed by a great effort front the sundevils role players. In the fourth quarter they pulled away from Western and showed that they had the abilty to play on a high level this early in the season. Eldardo will not be an easy out this year. They are very young, but they really have a fun time getting after it on defense and applying pressure on the ball for the enitre game.  This was my second time watching the Sun Devils play this week and they do a great job matching intensity with conditioning. Coach Uzan has the ablility to squeak out  maximum effort from his kids, which translates into wins like this.  Stewart is a hard nosed player who is always around the rim for a put back or a dunk, if he can maintain this level of intensity, he can elevate himself to a mid major D1 prospect. Freshmen Julian Jacobs was the surprise of the game as he played with poise and intensity down the stretch.

Just a quick FYI Kentrell and Sir are cousins. Kentrell and Kenyon are brothers on the Western Squad!
