Day 1 Snap Shot of Mid/ High Majors at Fullcourt Press All-Frosh/ Soph Camp
(Players Edge, Corora, California) Day 1 of the Fullcourt Press All-Frosh/ Soph Camp unfolded a handful of talented 2015 and 2014 prospects. 2014 Shaquille Carr has blown up this past week and his stock is roaring across the west coast wires. 2014 Stanely Johnson is still as good as advertised. Johnson is a man child that strokes the ball from 21 consistently. Johnson should have no problems playing the guard/ wing posistions in college. 2015′s Stephen Zimmerman, Sedrick Barefield, Marcus Lovett and Tyler Dorsey are all high major prospects. Below is the breakdown for day 1 with a few notations.
2014 Mid/ High Prospects
Shaquille Carr 6’1 Canyon Springs (Las Vegas, Nevada) Pass first point guard that is also an incredible athlete. Carr’s court vision is exceptional in the half court set and in transition. Shaq took care of the basketball and treated every position like it counted. Mid/ High majors need to take a close look at this athletic slashing guard that loves to finish his penetrating drives with pin point passes for lay ups and open jumpers. Add 15 pounds of muscle, a consistent 21 footer and Carr will translate into a high major+ talent for any program.
Notes: Carr is an incredible athletic guard with vision. Very poised leader who plays with gears.- POP
Elston Jones 6’9 Millennium (Goodyear, Arizona) Big body block prospect who can get up the floor. Not explosive but can finish at the rim. Showed of a few hooks and turn around jump shots in the key and finished well in the paint. Good motor for his size and age. Mid Major+ prospect.
Notes: Still 3 years of basketball left for Jones. Explosiveness could come.
Noah Robotham 5’10 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nevada) Robotham always has been a true “pure” point guard and is now showing he can score in a variety of ways. Pull up threes, mid-range, change of directions floaters in the lane you name it. Robotham feel is on the highest level and loves to make his teammates better. Had a good day 1 of action.
Notes: Robotham is one year young for his age so he will physically continue to grow. Mid/ High Major talent.
Eric Morgan 6’6: St. Francis (Mountain View, CA.) Morgan originally from Australia is an athletic slasher who loves to hit the rim. Very aggressive and uses pump fakes and jabs to get into the lane.
Notes: Should develop into a solid mid major talent.
Stanely Johnson 6’5 Mater Dei (Orange County, CA.) With a body built like a greek sculpture, Johnson is the most ready prospect at the camp period. Pull-up 21 footers, isolation dribble moves for mid range jumpers or dunks and the ability to make tough interior shots in traffic. Day 1 belonged to Johnson. He continues to add new facets to his game.
Notes: According to his Mom, “His recruitment is wide open and he is in the gym everyday working to be the best he can be.”
Namon Wright 6’3 Highland (Palmdale, CA.) G/W Wright is a player who should translate to a solid mid major prospect with more refinement. Good slasher who can also knock down the mid range. If the explosiveness kicks in Wright could play at a higher level. Lengthy guard who created and showed touch.
Notes: Waiting for explosiveness to kick in with this prospect within the next three years. Good looking prospect.
Fatai Eke 6’7 Bakersfield (CA.) Athletic forward prospect that had a motor all day long. Rebounded, contested, bodied and played quality possessions on both sides. A high energy talent that will win the 50/50 game in the paint.
Notes: Pay attention to Eke he is not a sleeper. With growth his stock will jump out the ceiling.
2015 Mid/ High Prospects
Stephen Zimmerman 6’10 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nevada) For most scouts they love saying its too early to tell who is the #1 2015 prospect is? Not true Zimmerman is on another tier. At 6’10 he controls the game defensively in the paint and on the glass. Only played one game on day one but he recorded a double double while finishing on fade-aways, spot up jump-shots and breath taking dunks in transition. Zimmerman runs the floor like a wing, defends like warrior and competes to win.
Notes: Zimmerman holds offers from Kansas, UCLA, UNLV, UCONN …
Premierball.com asked Zimmerman how many points he scored in the first game? He replied, “I don’t count my baskets, I just play!”
Sedrick Barefield 6’0 (Temecual, CA.) Right now out of all the 2015′s top prospects Barefield has the best build and next to LoVett has an advanced ball handling skill set. Defensively Barefield maintained a very strong physical stance and really stood up to the challenge by guarding Stanely Johnson for the entire game. Barefield is a point guard that will share the ball but also has the skill set to change directions and speed to get to the rim or make plays for teammates. Add his 22 foot arching jump shot and you have a high major talent in his class. Barefield has the speed, strength and explosiveness you want out of a underclassman at his age.
Notes: Interest from San Diego St., New Mexico, New Mexico St., Colorado and Louisville.
Tyler Dorsey 6’4 Ribet Academy (Los Angeles, CA.) Dorsey first day match up was not entertaining. Dorsey was grabbed, pulled, hacked but still managed to get through it and show why he is considered one of the top combo guards in the country. Dorsey is very athletic and wiry and loves to create for his shot and get to the rim. He is picking up his point guard skill set and continues to elevate his game.
Notes: Dorsey has heard from UTEP, Alabama, Arizona, Washington, Washington St, Duke, Oregon St and Stanford to name a few.
Marcus LoVett 5’10 Providence (Burbank, CA.) Coaches, scouts and writers have been calling to see Marcus Lovett all summer long. Finally, LoVett comes out of the lab and displays his gifted ball handling talents. Throw in a killer pin point 21 footer and you have a point guard that is a complete nightmare to handle. His game is high octane with change of speed, change of direction with deceptive head fakes from the dribble. LoVett can get anywhere on the floor and looks like he will fill out well with squared shoulders.
Notes: You won’t see him on the circuit .. LoVett lives in the gym.- POP
