Bishop Gorman Wins The Sunset Region Championship

Point Guard John Loyd had his scoring hat and was on fire with a game high 25 points. Loyd lit up 3 consecutive three pointers to give Gorman the first quarter momentum. When Loyd gets his track and field game flowing there are few players around that can keep him from the paint. Bishop Gorman’s offense was sluggish early on but MVP Loyd carried the load by connecting on several pull ups and three. The defense picked it up in the second half with great mid-line help and awesome ball pressure that often led to turnovers for easy lay ups and dunks. Palo Verde came out with the confidence of a prize fighter in the opening round. Palo Verde guard play looked great Vs. Cimarron-Memorial but against Bishop Gormans’ length and athleticism they couldn’t get it done. Palo Verde Freshmen Point guard Eris Winder showed us he can get to the paint at will but needs to get stronger finishing plays to the rack. Winder still had some great plays through out the game and showed us why he started in last nights match-up. Palo Verde Sunset MVP Moses Morgan played great in the paint and knocked down several jump shots and scored 20 points. Morgan finished most of his plays in the interior with solid pin downs. Sr. Guard Davion Pearson added 11 points for Palo. Palo Verde big Drew Topham was consistently sound in the paint all tournament long and created problems for the Gaels early on. The athletic Topham increased his stock throughout the tournament and was a deserving pick for Sunset division first team,
Versatile Anson Winder played a solid all around game. Sophomore Roscoe Allen played well by rebounding and hitting a few shots early in the contest. Allen looks to be lanky but not skinny, Should grow into his body with descent size before college with the ability to handle the ball, shoot and pass at 6′8, 6′9. Super Sophomore Shabazz Muhammad finished the night with 22 points and continued his domnace all over the floor and running his lane like a track star and finishing over the top on several plays late in the game. Muhammad punched in 11 points in the 4th quarter. Final was 79-62.
Bishop Gorman is set to play in Reno on Thursday against a talented and deceptive Bishop Manogue team. Gorman will attempt to repeat as state champions, but must get passed the Canyon Springs Pioneers, who should have no problems against McQueen in their opening round match up. See you at the game!!!!!!

Why wont you publish my comments? If you do I really think you need too. If these Gorman kids are really that good why is it that they only have one kid that signed Division-1 and that kid really don’t count cause The coaches brother signed him! I’m not mad at Gorman I just think they out recruited the rest of the schools and that’s why they won back to back. Watch out for Sierra Vista Next year they have some surprises for the Sun Set conference next year!
To James the Baller-Only one senior this year signed division 1 so far but john loyd will be shortly and there are multiple(Shabazz Muhammad,Roscoe Allen,) others that will sign that are only sophmores or juniors. And the rest of Gormans starting line up: Xavier Grimble, and Alex Turner are playing D1 football
JamestheBaller: It is your choice to be a hater, but dont mention Sierra Vista, we dont want to be associated with that hater-mentality. Spend more time working harder on your game, than crying and complaining about the game.
