Avoid the Vegas basketball landmines!

inside_lasvegasmines

Premierball.com has been out in the valley watching a lot of basketball this high school season and one of the things that stands out in our writers minds is how parents and players can avoid Vegas’s B-ball landmines. You might be asking yourself, what are they talking about now!!!, in essence what we are talking about is we have now seen “the good”, ” the bad” and ” the ugly” when it comes to high school hoops in this town. You as an involved parent of a student athlete have to do your homework, you have to have an understanding of what you and your child are in for when you choose a school, some of the landmines you might want to be aware of are as follows:

1. Whats the schools academic track record, what is the percentage of students that graduate every year as well as drop out.

2. What is the basketball programs track record in terms of how many players has the coaching staff sent to D1, D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO programs.

3. What is the  personality of the head coach and does that personality coincide with your kid?, is he a players coach?, is he an authoritarian? etc…

4.Does the head coach have a basketball philosophy or is he or she into coaching for the extra money. Does the coach stress both athletics and academics.

5. Is the schools administration supportive of the program and do they encourage competition year round as well as allowing the team to play in competitive tournaments outside of  Nevada.
